Preparations for Building a Shower with the Pre-Pitch System

The preparation steps of building a shower can be strenuous but are extremely important. Giving your attention to proper slope in the shower mortar bed installation is well worthwhile in the long run.

Why is it Important to Pre Slope a Shower?

It’s very important to pre-slope a shower.  Forgoing this step could mean the difference between having water damage and mildew in your shower.  Without a pre-slope there is a high probability that water can go through your mortar bed and underneath your tiled floor.

The real question is where does that water go once it has gone through your liner? Water will eventually reach your sub-floor or cement floor.  A pre-slope is necessary because if water reaches this layer it needs to be directed to the drain area.

If the area under your shower liner is flat (without any slope to the drain) water will build-up and eventually cause mildew. This is water damage you don’t want to have!

The photo below is a water damaged shower that was not properly sloped.  This becomes a very expensive fix, and a lot of work.

Water Damage in Shower

A little frightened?  The good news is:  there is a solution to this!

How Does the Pre-Pitch System Work?

The pre-pitch system is designed to help effortlessly build your pre-slope so that water won’t build up under your shower liner.  The pre-pitch sticks will sit on top of your sub-floor or cement floor.  Make sure you prepare wooden sub-floor with Mortar Reinforcement Kit to prevent your mortar from rotting your wood.

There are a total of 6 sticks that come in a pre-pitch system that enable you to create your perfect slope underneath your shower liner.  You can also purchase a OneLiner Installation Kit ; this would give you 8 pre-pitch sticks.

If you have a larger shower size and need more coverage, you can purchase single pre-pitch sticks at a great price!

Trust the shower experts: the best thing is that you will have a solid, properly angled pre-slope to go toward your drain.
