What is a Linear Shower Drain System?
Dix Systems’ Linear Shower Drain System collects water in a shower along a wall (where the shower floor slopes towards the wall) or along the full width of the shower center (when the linear drain is installed down the center of the shower stall).
Linear shower drain systems are larger and more efficient, providing better water drainage than conventional, centrally located circular or square drains, where the floor needs to be sloped 360 degrees around a small four or six inch shower drain.
How is a Linear Shower Drain System Different?
Traditional center floor drains require the use of smaller tiles as floor coverings because the drain pan slopes on all four sides toward the middle of the shower. The smaller tiles more readily adapt to this type of slope. Linear drains allow the entire floor of a shower or bathroom to slope evenly toward the drain. This is commonly known as a single plane slope.
Since the floor is evenly sloped, linear shower drains also allow for the placement of larger bathroom ceramic tiles or stone that lead up to the drain. This makes it easier for homeowners to match the floor covering with the bathroom or shower walls during bathroom construction or renovation. Ceramic tile and stone floor coverings are some of the most hygienic and easy-to-maintain shower floor coverings available.
Why Install a Linear Shower Drain System?
As baby boomers are aging more and more of them are contemplating their future, and examining the benefits of aging in place instead of moving to a retirement home. Some of their main concerns are maintaining manageable levels of safety and comfort while still being able to act independently of family and loved ones.
Installing a barrier-free bathroom removes the curbs associated with standard showers and bathtubs, while opening up the entire bathroom for those with limited mobility issues due to aging.
Installing a linear shower drain system means that someone in a wheelchair, or using a walker, can more readily access the shower, providing them with the freedom to age in place with relative ease.
